Horny Goat Weed Extract

Ancient Chinese legend describes a goat-herder who one day noticed that his billy goats seemed unusually amorous, mounting their mates many times in just a short span of time. Observing the goats for several weeks he found that whenever they grazed on a particular patch of weeds they became especially aroused and sexually active for hours thereafter. Eventually word was passed along to local herbalists who took an interest in this “horny goat weed” and soon the plant was added to the traditional Chinese pharmacopoeia as one of the strongest herbs for boosting sexual potency.

Horny goat weed, or Yin Yang Huo, is a primary ingredient in “spring wines”, potent medicinal Chinese liquors intended to nurture sexual vitality. The leaves of the plant are considered a tonic to kidney-yang and strong aphrodisiacs.

Horny goat weed expands capillaries and larger blood vessels facilitating a flow of hormone-rich blood to the bodies most sensitive tissues. This effect is documented in both men and women. Aside from facilitating better tactile sensation by engorging the sexual organs with blood, the plant may also safely modulate the hormones involved in mediating both sexual desire and pleasure. While the exact mechanism by which it operates is still unclear, research suggests its effects may be related to the production of the sexual hormone androgen and interaction with the pituitary gland and hypothalamus.
